starter broken?
i have a 94 gsr motor in my civic.
the car has been sitting for awhile and hasn't started
since my cousins boy friend messed it up
i juss put in new spark plugs, and my battery is dead,
but i tryed jump starting it and nothing.
the starter seems to be broken, its making a clicking noise when the car starts to crank
can someone help me confirm that the starter is the problem

Re: starter broken?
When you turn the key, does it make a ticking sound? If so, that's the starter trying to engage. Try using the old hammer trick. If that doesn't work, the starter could possibly be going bad and isn't strong enough to crank the motor anymore. Taking it out and testing it on a battery to see if it'll spin, is a pointless test, just so you know... and don't waste your time doing it. The battery will spin the starter whether it's good or bad. You can't tell by that diagnostic if the starter is strong enough to crank the motor. Just keep that in mind. It could be the bushings, but rebuilding a starter nowadays is damn near pointless when you can go pick one up from a junkyard or just buy a new one.

Re: starter broken?
Tapping the starter with a hammer would only work if the starter isn't spinning or not contacting the flywheel. If the engine is turnng over and just not starting then the problem is something else, no spark, no fuel, or a timing issue.

Re: starter broken?
fuel pump connect a pressure gauge to the the fuel filter research the pressure for your exact system. That probably would be the best way to test it or you can take the pump out which is underneath your back seat

Re: starter broken?
dude, my best suggestion is to change ur starter... take ur old one out and bring it to kragen and trade ur old one to new for cheaper price..
