Squeeling noise
Hello all. I've just gotten around to driving my car after I dont know how many months. When I start the car, it starts to make a high pitch squeel. I am thinking it is transmission related. When I drive it, the noise is still there but seems to go away with higher RPM. Or, the exhaust drowns it out. When I slow down, it comes back very prominent. So, when I am a a stop light, it sounds like its broken. Someone suggested it was my throwout bearing but... I have no clue. Hence, this is why I am posting here in the Tech section in hopes that someone with a like experience or expertise in this area will chime in. Thanks!!
freakin sounds like the fan belt but its not. I think its coming from the tranny. I just dont want to rip it out again. especially if I have no idea what i am looking for. Anybody??
does it happen when the clutch is pressed in or let out? I have the same problem, a loud whine from the tranny. It happens when I let the clutch out and accelerate. Through research I found out it is most likely the input shaft bearing. Now I am just waiting on the parts so I can have fun rebuilding it.
thanks for the reply. Mine is regardless. when I start the car, there is no noise. as soon as it warms up a little. there it goes. the clutch depressed will alter the sound just slightly but not significantly. When I drive the car, it usually goes away at higher rpm but never goes away.
i was told by .... of all places... my stereo shop... i know its not a mechanic but, they said it wasnt coming from the belt. Any tranny experts have a clue as to if this is something a transmission would do??

First off, don't go put GM Synchromesh oil in your trans(try to figure out what it is first). I'm no trans pro, but I know bearings can make whatever noise they want if they're bad. My input shaft bearing howled like a wolf when it went bad(no ****).

Thanks King V. I think pulling my tranny would be the only logic. Unless I find a tranny expert that can help diagnose the problem. I am 99% sure its not a belt.
