I'm pretty sure my my #1 rod bearing has been spun.
I'll be rebuilding the motor sometime in the future, however, I was looking for a 'quick fix' if possible.
Could I drop the oil pan, drop the rod, piston and reinstall new rod bolts along with new bearings for the bad rod/piston ?
Any other ideas ?

How do you know #1 spun? You might be able to pull the #1 rod end cap. If rod and crank look ok, replace the bearing. But normally a real rod bearing spin will freeze the motor, wreck the rod and mess up the crank. It would take a full tear down rebuild if that happened.

I adjusted the valves to make sure they weren't loose. Did a leakdown
as well. BTW, its an H22A motor

But why #1 as compared to #2,3,4? I'm sure it's not a spun bearing as the engine would only run a minute in that condition. Could be piston slap, worn out piston pin or most likely a rod bearing going bad. You need to fix it now before more damage is done. Drop the pan and check your rod bearings first.

the case here. Its consistent cold or hot.
I'm guessing its # 1.... thats where I've tracked the sound to be originating from.
Like you said, a piston pin or rod bearing is probably going bad.
If I could take care of it by going thru the oil pan alone, that would be a bonus.

With the engine running, pull spark plug wires one at a time. If it is a bad rod bearing or pin, the noise will go away when you pull the right wire. I once had this problem, isolated the bad cylinder, pulled the rod cap and the bearing fell out in 4 pieces (thanks to running nitrous). Replaced bearing and was good as new.
