spun bearings-what causes
im possibly getting a b18c block by nextweek, pretty cheap, reason being- spun bearings in 1 and 4 connecting rods.
physically i havent seen yet, from what the owner says the crank will need turning or replace it, i assuming the rods maybe trashed too, but it will be getting rebuilt anyway.
What actually causes bearings to spin? in this case its a bonestock block.
could it be highmiles(woreout) or improper clearances if he had every rebuilt it-(will ask ) oil maintance or i think high rpm abuse.
ive never seen one, just curios as to why that happens?
any posts welcome.
thanx

W/ the H23 Prelude, they have longer rods, making for a bad r/s ratio. When revved too high, they tend to spin bearings easy(or throw a freakin rod!). As far as I've ever heard, it's usually high RPM's.
lack of lubrication under extreme temperatures will cause the bearings to "stick" to the crankshaft and then spin ... or another method is under extreme reving the connection rod bolts will strech making the connecting rod holder not perfecly round but oval.. this added gap will then cause the ability of the bearing to walk and thus spin also..
so basically have very tight and tough rod bolts.. plenty of good lubrification (good oil) and also check the clearances on your main bearings to "PREVENT" this from happening....
I think i'm right ? hhhahahaha eh guys ?

same thing happened to me but it was only the #1 bearing and the rest was fine, but i heard if you take hard corners it could creat the problem of spuned bearings, correct me if im wrong.
primarily it's lack of oil pressure. So yes, potentially hard cornering under full throttle with a non-baffled oil pan could starve the bearings of the oil pressure necessary to maintain the film of oil between the parts.

Well done

a lot of times these engines have been run completely out of oil, (people who don't keep their eye on maintenence), so make sure that there isn't anything else wrong.
