Default spring bolts

i had the muffler shop weld on my hi flow cat. when i got home i looked under the car and noticed my spring bolts didn't have the springs on anymore. am i ok without them? my donut gasket is still there. i called them about it and they said its ok aslong as your motor mounts aren't bad. i want to hear what you guys have to say. thanks

Well, I don't exactly see how motor mounts would solve the problem. When you drive your car under different loads, the motor rocks back and forth. The condition of your motor mounts determines how much it rocks. Too much, and it's not good (too much interior vibration, stress on exhaust system, etc). Too little, and it's also not "good" (for the average driver). It won't be a very comfortable ride, but you'll get good engine/throttle response.

However, the stress on the exhaust system is supposed to be distributed by the motor mounts AND spring bolts. If you have good motor mounts, that's good too, but good motor mounts still make the motor rock. Too much spirited driving, and it's possible that you could crack something. If you're lucky, it'll be somewhere in the exhaust piping. If not, it could be a little more complicated like cracked flanges in your header (where's it's connected to the head).

That's kinda lame they didn't put the spring bolts back in. They probably misplaced it and didn't bother putting it back. Go ask for them back, or have them reimburse you so you can buy them yourself. I would.

It's not a BIG deal, but I wouldn't want to be without them personally.
