i had the same problem, mine was bad connection fromthe wire to the vss. take the vss and put it in a friends car to see if it works. If it does than you might have loose wires somewhere.

Bad sensor, bad ground, or open in the signal wire.

Update on situation. I drove the car about 400 miles today. It will be working fine then just stop and then start working again. It does not do it when I hit a bump or anything like that. I will just be driving and it will go to zero then come back up to the correct speed? Don't know if this helps. I checked the connection to where it goes into the tranny and that seems fine.

sorry, but I am not familiar with the method of input to your speedo on this model.
If it is electronic, disregard this post. If it is cable, you may want to check the actual needle.
I had a speedo stop working, but I noticed that the odometer was still ticking. Turns out that
the needle seat had worn out, so I replaced it with a new needle; problem solved.

good luck.

Is the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS). The part which is held down with 2 10mm bolts? And the plug goes into? Should I unbolt that and can it be cleaned or does it just need to be replaced?
