I'm having a similar problem... speedo is acting all funny. I replaced my sensor (cost me 100 bucks for a new one), but it didn't fix the problem...

Check all your wiring before you go out and buy a new sensor. Make sure everything's tight on the back of your cluster (plug-wise)... and no shorts or wierd stuff. check the connector on your speed sensor (on the back of your tranny, below your intake tube... vertical thing with a plug on top that goes into the wiring harness). check for the same stuff... shorts, faulty/bent pins, etc.

Just my suggestions. let me know how it turns out, I'm still tracking down the source of my problem... (haven't had much time lately, so I haven't had a chance to pull the cluster out again and doublecheck everything there)

Do you still have your stock gauge cluster? My sister had the same problem but it was due to the cluster not being installed correctly and was hitting the needle.

Follow these steps and youll find the answer.

Check to make sure the VSS is still bolted down securley and not able to rotate freely. It is on top of the tranny straight down under the throttle body. Unplug it and make sure there isnt any corrosion on the wires. If theres none, check the blue wire on the back side of the cluster. It should have continuity with the third wire on the sensor. While your checking wires, the blk/yellow wire should have power, and the black wire should be grounded. If everything checks out good. borrow one of your friends, and see how it works in your car. If it still doesnt work. Its the gauge itself, so replaced it.
