Speedo not working properly even after replacing VSS?
Ok, I've been having this problem lately where my speedometer is very erratic. Sometimes it doesn't do anything (just sits at 0 while I'm cruising along), other times it jumps around and bounces all over the place, sometimes it shoots all the way around and hits the stop needle on the other side, etc..
So, I was told the vehicle speed sensor was probably at fault, and that I should replace it. And I did. And it worked great for almost exactly one day. Now it's back to doing the same thing again, only it's not as noticeable this time (ie, bouncing a little less, but still bouncing, sometimes it won't do anything, reads funky and sweeps all the way up to like 90 when I accelerate to about 60mph).
So what else is there in the chain between tranny and the actual gauge that could bite the dust? Could it be the speedo itself, or the wiring in between, or what? Is my car chewing up VSS's (old one looks fine physically... hmm)?
Anyone got any ideas? I'm about ready to say screw it and pull out the VSS and plug the hole with a cork.

Re: Speedo not working properly even after replacing VSS? (Slow_ass_4dr)
Slow_ass_4dr: yeah, checked that... everything seems fine. All the wires are there and I blew some compressed air on the plug to make sure there wasn't any dirt in there.
After taking it out for another drive, it seems like the speedo only works properly when the car is cold. After a couple miles of driving, it starts going nuts. Anyone got any ideas why this would happen only once the car is warmed up, but the speedo works properly otherwise?
I'm stumped... unless it's some other component that I don't have a spare for.

Some of the plugs on the back of my dash was causing the exact same thing. Just had to push them back in and everything was fixed.

CivicEx95: The back of the cluster? Or some place else?
hmm... I just took my cluster out the other day to install some new gauge faces, and I'm pretty sure everything was plugged in fine before and after I worked on it. This problem has been going on for much longer than that, so it's not like I knocked something loose working on it or anything.

mine was a bad connection on the engines harness (like the plug that goes into the vss) just check all connectors.

Yeah, one of the connectors on the back of the cluster. Wasn't pushed in all the way. Pushed it in and it clicked. I had just installed indiglos the week before.
