Default Spark Plug/heat range Q's (help)

My questions are... can running too hot of plug contribute/cause detonation?

With that in mind... will too hot of plug increase Exhaust Gas Temps?

Also... when reading a plug number... for a GSR... PFR6G-13... Can you break that down to english for me?

Is the 13 the heat range? Would a cooler plug be PFR6G-11 like for the ITR?

Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Yes running to hot of a plug can create detonation in the cylinder. The letters on the spark plug mean different things by different manufacturers. The PFR stands for the reach and thread usually and the -13 is the type of tip usually on the spark plug the 6 is the actual heat range. Changing to the other plug won't do much. If you are looking for a colder plug just pick up some BCRP7ES or higher cheap NGK plugs, but work great.

Like he said except the -11 -13 whatnots are what the plug is pre gapped at. -11 is pre gapped at 1.1mm -13 at 1.3. If there is no -# after a NGK plug it isnt pre gapped.

From something I found once on NGK's website, but I can't find it there anymore...

PFR6G-13 GS-R
PFR6H-10 Saab

P = platinum

F = metal shell size
(14mm dia, 19mm reach, 16mm hex)

R = resistor

6 = heat range
(2=hot, 11=cold)

G,H = firing end construction
(my list doesn't define them but my Saab takes 'H' & I got confused...)

-13 = pre-gapped to 1.3mm

Thanks to all that replied. That was all very useful information. At least now I know what my probem is.

Sorry I was at home when I made that post so I was just going off the top of my head. So lets go back again and explain all the symbols of this spark plug just to recap.

PFR6G-11

P = Plug Type = Premium Platinum
F = Metal Shell Size = Diameter 14mm, 19mm Reach, 16mm Hex
R = Construction = Resistor
6 = Heat Rating Numbers (2 = Hot, 11 = Cold) = 6
G = Firing End Construction = Nickel Alloy Center Electrode
11 = Wide Gap = 1.1mm
