Default something going on with my timing??

sup guys and girls...i had a question on my ignition timing that i hope someone can answer...when my cam gears are at zero, my timing is so far advanced that i cant retard it anymore with the distributor...and everything is at tdc even the cams, of course,...so what i did was i retarded my cam gear about -2 deg. and adjusted the distributor...so now my timing is dead on...now...my question is...why is is so far advanced when the gears are zero and everything is at tdc?...im just sitting here....scratching my head...wondering whats going on....can someone please explain..?

im still new, and researching on how to seriously tune motors..so if this is an obvious answer....im sorry in advance

yeah im sure i put everything together right...im still new in tuning motors but well experienced when putting them together..., im thinking tho, that my since the camgears dont have a tdc mark on em, (but they have marks on both sides of each gear to align em on the sides) i may have installed em....upside down? perhaps? how would it even fire...i really dont know...but the car runs really good but it could probaly run alot better if i can just figure this out.

I am telling you from experience: redo yur timing belt settings......your cam is off one tooth from being in time with your crank. It will run but not very well with it off one tooth and you will have severe timing issues as you are having at this very moment.

compare the stock cam gears versus the aftermarket ones you have to see if the marks and the keyways are the same
