D15Z1 is VTEC-E, a 4 valve cylinder head that under normal operation, only operates 3 valves per cylinder (2 exhaust, one intake), then opens the second one during hard acceleration and above a certain RPM, this improves fuel economy.

D16Z6 is just normal VTEC.

The d15z1 is the worst SOHC ever made. The z6 in one of the best.

Watch it there, I'm gonna do a z1 mini-me, it's not terrible unless you hate speed, and if the idea is you hate speed you're also wrong...

What are you trying to say?

Are you actually going to use a z1 head? I thought the idea of a mini-me was to gain power, not lose it...

I have to argue, the worst SOHC heads made are the D15B6/B8 heads.. I am confined to a D15B8 right now and MAN talk about a slow beast. I have driven my friends VX (hatch that the Z1 comes in) with a full exhaust, headers, Z6 manifold swap, AEM intake and a few other little things and i was pretty damn impressed with its performance.

SVOboy: Usually when you do a mini-me, you put a D16Z6 head or a D16Y8 head on a non-VTEC d-block, the VTEC on those heads is tuned more towards performance. The Z6 and Y8 engines both make around 125 HP, the D15Z1 engine makes 92 HP, which is why most people dont do them.

I know, I have thought about it very much, I know how vtec-e works, and I'm planning on building it for 60+ mpg in my crx dx, which is easily possible considering I'll be running around a 13:1 CR, which is just the head swap and light modifications. Since it's my only car I have very little interest in going fast, plus getting better gas mileage without driving differently is a task that seems to me much harder than gaining power, which is something I find interesting.

EDIT: not to rant or anything.
