Default Snapped Crank Bolt

Long story, but I managed to break the head clean off. There's plenty of meat in the crank, plus a little hanging on the outside. Do I have a chance of getting it out?

Ground the bolt down till there is nothing left but the stud portion. The stud itsself shouldnt be very tight.

Then simply drill a hole in it and use an ease out.

weld a new nut onto the remaining portion of the stud. EZ-outs scare me to death, I think they end up causing more problems than they solve

No chance am I driving anywhere without a bolt holding that pulley on. The most I did was move it 15 feet up my driveway, and I did that as quickly as I could (I actually just got it rolling them shut it off and rolled to the end)

if you didnt cross thread the bolt then you should be able to back it out by hand since the bolt does not bottom out in the crank.

I ended up towing it to a shop. They had a lot of fun doing it. They ended up drilling it out step by step until they could grab the threads and peel them out, then chase the threads. Charged me for 2 hours which wasn't bad

So they used a left hand drill bit and it eased its way out until they could just grab it. Hmm. Either way it is fixed. As stated earlier unless you are equipped with high quality bits, taps, dies, most often bolt removal is best left to someone more on a professional level with more experience to know not just what to do, but what to definately NOT do. Wow that is one awkward sentence.
