Re: Crank pully bolt broke off... (SxualChkL8)
your fucked... how did the bolt just "break"...? anyways the best solution is to drill a hole in the bolt then try to use a bolt extractor to get it out... but good luck.. because most of the time its hard to budge them when they do have the head on it... you might need to get a whole new crank... that sucks..

I cant see a bolt just breaking while driving, and its protected by the crank pully so im calling BS on it breaking while driving. But like said if you broke it its alot easier to get a new crank because your going to want to pull the crank, bolt it down to a drill press or mill and drill that bolt out. I would like to see pics i have never seen a crank pully bolt break.

These bolts can break. I've seen it happen using an impact wrench removing the bolt. If the bolt has been fatigued by enough impact blows it could have damaged the integrity of the bolt.
So, you are basically looking at drilling out the bolt the best you can. Using the largest extractor you might be able to get it out.

mehehe, They do break, I had one snap on me, gave a quick warning sign (heavy vibrations) then the idle started bouncing...looked under car, and there was my pulley...
I suggest trying "easy out" ....aREAL FREAK'N GOOD one or you'll just make the bolt hole worse...or just swap the motor.... tried both...messed up hole, and bad motor swap/crank...bastards.

is youre crank pully still attached?... and is there any excessive movement?
you might want to use an extractor (like posted above) it wont be easy, worst case scenario you will either have to get a new crank installed or find a new motor and trade youre old one in (the cheaper method if youre paying someone else).
As for the retards... its getting old fast, dont post if you cant help.

point taken, ok i will help, check for play, is there enouh of the bolt on to hold the pulley on? has the pulley come off? if there is enough of the bolt intact to hold the pulley inplace i would just keep on driving and save up for a swap or to get it fixed.

Those bolts are locked in there with ~134lb/ft of torque with oil. You can use an easy out, but chances are it will be anything but easy. ****, its a PITA even with a 24" breaker bar on the bolt's head. If the moon isn't properly aligned and the 5th zodiac isn't in sight, I will be it will break. Thats the last thing you want, as easy outs are hardened, and dull drill bits like a statistics professor does his diner date.
I'd call up a few local machine shops, see if they will do it while its still on the car. You could possibly load it onto a car dolly, tow it over, pull off the wheel, and let them go to work. THey may need a ring gear holder to hold the flywheel, meaning unbolting the trans, sticking it in, and tightening that bolt.

Re: Crank pully bolt broke off... (JDMKid71)

Re: Crank pully bolt broke off... (portenio78)
im know rocket scientist but the only 3 options i see are
1. weld a bolt on top
2. try a turbo socket
3. try an extractor
and those are the order i would go in
ps. pics would help alot

Must have not been installed all the way thats the only way i see that thick *** bolt breaking. I say you can prob. get it out with an easy out or vicegrips seeing i doubt its properly installed

that looks like the best answer to fix your REAL problem, since your bolt really DID break, just ignore the morons

Re: Crank pully bolt broke off... (92ehatch)
just remember that if you are going to drill and use an extractor, don't drill too deep and try and be as close to center as possible. Also with the extractor (i.e. an easy-out), do not break it as they are hardened tool steel and you will be screwed. I suggest you take it to a shop to do the weld-a-bolt thing because you don't have tons of room to work with and a welder can really mess things up in a hury.
good luck
