skunk2 chip
Ok I looked around and I THINK im in the right section... if not let me know and ill post it where it should be... ok to my problem.. i bought a chipped ecu and a skunk2 chip and vtec is suppose to engauge at 4400 and rev limiter at 9000 and i installed it and it idles fine but it wont rev past 3400 even when im driving it wont go past 3400 rpm.. could i have the chip in backwards? could the chip be bad? thanks for your help!!
ok well the ecu was used and the guy i bought it from sent 3 chips with it and the jun and skunk2 both do what i described but the spoon one works just fine.. any idea why the other two dont work and this one does?? thanks- also the check engine light are on when the skunk2 and jun are in.

When it's running like that, it's in limp mode running from the backup rom. If some chips work but others don't, it's probably a bad chip. Make sure you're inserting them the right way; the notch for pin 1 goes towards the harness connectors.
You're still better off tuning the ecu rather than throwing some overly rich fuel maps and dangerous timing maps in there. If you have a Spoon engine, it would be great. But odds are, you don't... You're probably not going to make much more power, having VTEC so low will hurt midrange power, and if you rev to 9000rpm without preparing the valvetrain, kiss it all goodbye.

yupp i gotcha on that revin to 9000 lol not planning on going that high untill i get the head rebuilt especially considering I ALREADY have bent valves due to the previous owner running a turbo AND nos!! lol used to be a quick car. so can i get a vtec controller and get it tuned without doing anything else to the ecu or do i have to do any soldering? I know that a hondata system would be better but I just dont have that kind of cash right now.
Yeah, a VTEC controller will work, just splice it (neatly) into the harness and throw the stock chip back in the ecu.
PS, there are alternatives to Hondata: http://www.pgmfi.org
