Default Simple question - what does chamfering oil galleys do?

I hear about it, and see the services offered:

http://www.turbomagazine.com/t....html

But I don't understand the benefit. It says "improved oil flow," but the oil shouldn't flow any better (worse actually) unless you also modify the bearings too. And most people don't recommend messing with the bearings.

The other supposed benefit is not scoring the bearings, but do we really care about the back of the bearing? Who cares if it gets microscopically scored? And I've actually removed a lot of bearings from un-chamfered cranks, and I've never seen any marks on the back of the bearing. Just a slight discoloration.

Am I missing something?
