Signs of a bad steering column?
Lately it has gotten really hard to turn the wheel. It is not the rack and pinion. The problem is somewhere in the steering column and it binding. The steering wheel feels loose, I can shake it up and down pretty easy. The wheel is tight though. So my question what in the column can fail? I think I have an idea. Take a look at the picture and please tell me if this part can fail. The picture is not mine but one for sale on eBay. Any help would be much appreciated.

Re: Signs of a bad steering column?
For anyone interested in what the outcome was, the entire steering column shaft snapped in two on me while driving. It was scary. Bought a new column and she drives like new.

-----------where did you purchase your new steering column, how much was it and is it a lot of labor?
