Should I just get cam gears and a CTR cam instead of...
an exhaust? My car is totally stock, besides the suspenison. I wanted to get an exhaust because mine is rattling like crazy. Should I invest the money into Skunk2 cam gears and a CTR intake cam with dyno tuning? I should get a V-controller, but I will be able to live without it for now, right?? Will the VTEC crossover dip be terrible without the controller or should I get a set of ITR cams? Will it dip as bad with that setup? I am rambling because I have no idea what the hell I am asking! I just want to spend the money wisely. Thanks for your time.
Dude, you have to tell us what car - the GSR? Exhaust will not get you as much as dynoed cam, cam gears & maybe CTR pistons depending on app....
Yes, you will need a VAFC. The 4400 GSR VTEC crossover point will bog badly with CTR cams. The fuel controller will help let you optimize them too. Eventually, you'll want the header/exhaust combo to get rid of that bottleneck.
You'll notice the cams difference more, but you'll need to let them breathe with intake, header, and exhaust to really get the full benefit. If you're bone stock, start with an intake first. Cheaper than the others, an easy bolt on, and it makes a difference you can feel. Personally, I like the AEM, but people on this board have been fabricating a Comptech Ice Box like design for cheap. Search under Ice Box.
