Question about using CTR intake cam
Ok, so after I get a few more "need" type mods, my next "want" type mod is going to be a CTR intake cam (and possibly CTR or ITR exhaust cam, doesn't matter right?).
Anyway, a talked about it with a homie and he told me that because CTR's have a higher vtec engagement point, the cam won't work well in my B18C unless i get cam gears and a vtec controller. Makes sense to me.
My question is, is this cam really worth the extra stuff? I could drop ITR cams in there no problem right? All I might need are cam gears. Am I thinking correctly here?
Thanks in advance. J

you can get more power out of your stock cams with just a v-afc and cam gears on the dyno.
You could drop in the ITR's and not change the rev limit or anything and get a little horsepower. tuning will get you more.

I don't believe I'll have any luck getting on a dyno.
Then the ITR/CTR cams are the cam of choice --- I would say that they need as little dyno tuning as any cam possibly could. You also do not need cam gears to run them --- my bud RedStarGSR ran them for a good month quite nicely w/o anything but the cams.
Cool.
So, back to my original question. Am I better off dropping in ITR in/ex cams? From what I understand that CTR intake cam is only going to hurt me unless I get a vtec controller so I can bump engagement up to 6000 or whatever it is for a CTR.
Yeah, I've never heard of anyone amateur like myself getting dyno time in Hawaii. I don't even know where they have one here. I know it exists though, cause my friends' best friend blew up his 10 sec eclipse motor on it last month. lol

Interesting.
Ok, well, dyno tuning is more than likely not going to be available to me at all. The best I can do is get everything set up and make sure the car runs well enough to get to the track. Meet up with friends there and keep doing runs til I find something I like.
Looks like I'm going save up for the vtec controller first, then go for the cams.

you don't really need a dyno...
just a couple of sensors and the like (datalogger, etc.)
don't worry about it...drop in the ITR's and be done with it.
