Default Shimming oil pump

What does this actually require you do to the oil pump (to increase pressure). I'd like to boost my oil pressure a bit further, I might try a k series filter. Does anyone have any experience with either of these options. I am running a vtec pump already.

I've never tried it myself, but a member on hybrids.jp swears by it and does it to all his pumps. All you need is some washers. I'm probably going to try it on the next block I build.

theres a allen plug at the bottom of the pump you have to take out, than put a 1/8" thick washer into the pump and onto the spring...just make sure the washer sits inside the pump and not outside....than put the plug/screw back in and install your oil pump....by putting that washer in your compressing the spring more which increasing the spring rate and it takes more oil pressure to open the spring...the spring is basically an oil pressure regulator and when the oil pressure gets to a certain point the spring releases some of the pressure to keep it constant....just like a wastegate releases exhaust pressure...

Most Hondas have no problem with oil pressure, which is why noone does this...

You might want to address other problems in your oiling system.

this is intresting, and while you have your oil pump off you might as well change out the oil pump gear $ 200 or so well spent . . .

don't you think changing out the pump gear is a little bit excessive?

Keep the stock gear...
Shimming the pump is done on most all professionally built high performance Hondas.
Shim the pump and be done with it.

I guess everyone who shim's the oil pump doesn't have a turbo, because the high oil pressure is already bad for the turbo seals. BTW, what does this increase in oil pressure accomplish?

how does high oil pressure damage a turbo seal? Why do they design the seals to be so weak that 60 psi of oil pressure will blow them out?

if your sitting at high rpms for a good amount of time the stock ring gear can break apart . . . . the gear is only like 200$

$200 is a lot of money. It wont have that much of an effect on a drag racing motor I take it then?

well, 200$ is not alot of money compared to you blowing your motor . . . and its mostly for road racer. autocrossers , or high speed runs that you would have the rpms above 6500 rpms for more then like a min or two

I don't know why they design the seals so weak, I just know that stock turbo cars don't run with oil pressure anywhere near 75psi, its around 30psi or so.

so an engine like a 4g63 would run around 30-35 psi of oil pressure where as a honda motor might see 45? Another reason why Honda motors should not be turbocharged!
