Default Differences in B-Series Oil Pumps?

Compare an ITR oil pump and an LS oil pump. What physically makes the VTEC oil pumps better than the non-VTEC oil pumps? Just the spring thats on the inside that controls oil flow? Or is there something else?

The VTEC oil pumps are the same. There are only 2 types of B series oil pumps, OBD2 and non OBD2. The OBD2 have a mount for the crank fluctuation sensor, that is the only difference.

The oil pressure is not determined by the pump, but the pressure relief spring in the block, as you mentioned.

there is no spring in the block..

there is a washer/shimm in the bottom of the pump... that sets the pressure....

on has the washer.. one doesnt..

I thought the spring was in the pump itself. So basically what i'm asking is, could I use the spring from an itr pump in an ls pump to make it function like an itr pump?

Here is your question:

Here is your answer:

VTEC/Non-VTEC has the same pump.

but as mentioned in the above post, the spring is not in the block. it is in the pump iteself. So my question is "Are the pressure springs in B-Series oil pumps interchangeable?"

exactly why I am asking, because you can buy just the pressure spring separately.

I cant see why it would not work.
But thats is why I asked to see if anyone else had similar thoughts.

The part numbers for the Relief Valve and Relief Valve Spring are the same for all B-Series oil pumps. So what makes a VTEC oil pump different from a non-VTEC one?

YES that is all you have to do.. is swap the washer... witch increases the oil pressure... from 60 to 90 ..

So there's a washer in the oil pump that regulates flow?

The washer is a shim that preloads the spring.
