Default Shifter assembly problems

I put in a new shifter because the tip on my last one broke off, and this new one has lot's of play in any gear, and it vibrates and a really annoying rattling noise comes into the car now. Does anyone have suggestions on what to look for? I was looking around and I think it might be that there is no shift rod seal, and that may be why it's vibrating, but I am unsure. Thanks for any help or suggestions.

if you replaced the shift linkage then definitely it's the universal joint (where the bitch pin is) near the transmission.....

if just the shifter....then are you sure you replaced all the bolts and that the part that bolts to the chassis is on tight?

Yepp, all bolts are tight and how do the bushings help? I can also feel that there's a little play if I pull up on the shifter, would bushings help for that too? and where can I get them?
