Default Shifter help

Ok so i put my car back together today. I put my shift linkage back up and i went in my car and felt i can move my shifter up and dont nothing is lose. i can move it up and down like an inch. what can i do to fix that.

can you take a picture? sounds like the bushing that holds up the linkage is either loose (the bolts that hold it) or its very worn out. double check your work. get under the car and wiggle the linkage, whatever is loose should be evident.

I agree with grog. I suspect it's that bushing.

no everythings it tight. Like the only thing that movs is the shifter i think its the bushing thats on the shifter that goes on the round part of the short thorw. You know what i mean i think its the little rubber thing that goes over that is there anywhere i can go grab another one from somewhere or what

dealership, or junkyard.
So is that "pivot" bushing missing?
if the bushing is still there you could try wrapping some electrical tape around it as a temporary fix.
although this bushing controls side to side motion a lot more than up and down motion.
seams like the plate that holds that bushing in place could be loose
