Default Shift Boot On 92 Accord

I just bought a new shift know on my 92 accord but it doesn't fit the shift boot because of how the stock shifter fit onto a ring on the boot. How do I remove the shift boot?

I would remove that square clip from the boot and somehow tie it up just underneath the shifter ****.. if you remove the whole boot, then it will look like ****...

But if you must, then removing the boot involves dismantling the center console and removing the screws that hold the boot into place.. you can only get to these screws by removing that center console...
