Default Shaving pistons

I was in an arguement with a friend last night about shaving the top of a high compression piston to lower the compression. I said it's cheap and he'll be asking for trouble, he says it can be done... who's right?

anything could be done in a machine shop
as long as they are balanced but why do it
when there are a lot of guys trying to go high compression
and have plenty of low comp pistons laying around..

I could be wrong but I think flycutting refers to enlarging the valve reliefs in the piston.

"flycutting" is a method of cutting a metal with a tool. it is not specific to pistons.

probably can do it but arent there any other ways with less effort/cost?
thicker headgasket maybe?

As far as a thicker head gasket goes,I don't think you can do much...especially with 12 to 1 compression.
