Safe to run PCT ecu with USDM b16?
I'm wondering if I can run a PCT ecu from a JDM CTR with a stock USDM B16A2? From what I understand it's obd2b, all the connections look identical. I'm more concerned with ignition timing, fuel maps and what not. What the differences are.
Safe is a relative term. It likely will be a bit rich since the PCT ECU is programmed to run a 185 HP engine, not a 160 HP engine like your B16A2. The fuel and ignition maps will be incorrect since they are optimized for higher compression, aggressive cams, a larger T/B, ITR intake manifold, ITR cylinder head and a larger exhaust manifold... not to mention your VTEC crossover point will be awfully high. Redline is set high enough that if you run your A2 to it you may float valves since your valvetrain isn't up to the task.
I would say it is a bad idea... but it is ultimately up to you. It is your car.
Incidentally, when you were asked "why" above, and you answered "because you have it"... don't you still have the stock P2T ECU ??? I think the question "why" is do you think there will be an improvement over the stock one ??? That answer is a resounding "NO".

Thanks, that was the exact infoo I was looking for. I did want to run it to see if any improvements could've been made, also been dealing with a recurring p0133 code that I believe may have something to do with the ecu and wanted to swap to see if it would stay off.
Run the testing for your code to ground (meaning use a logical, systematic method to eliminate possible options and zero in on the faulty part). If it turns out your P2T ECU is the culprit, hit me up. I have a box full of them... I will make you a deal you can't refuse.
Always happy to help.
