Default S80 Transmission case will not open

Anybody have any ideas as to why the case wont apart?

Yes i have removed all the bolts and sensors on the transmission casing, it seems like it is jammed and wont come past one spot, should it just slide right off or what?
The case lifts about a half an inch and then WILL NOT go any further. Yes it is in neutral as well.

Anybody have any ideas?

When I do mine I remove the detent ***** and the housing bolts, sit the transmission on two blocks of wood so there isn't any stress on the input shaft and then just unhinge the snap ring. I used a heel bar to break the honda bond apart. My guess would be that either the snap ring or just the honda bond is holding you up

Are you talking bout the snap ring on the top of the transmission once you take out that one bolt with a half inch drive ratchet?

Is there a special type of snap ring pliers to use on that snap rings because i have never seen a snap ring like that before?

Also, the snap ring just recesses in correct and while you have compressed in then you slide the case off, correct?

Yeah Im talking about the snap ring under that plug, you don't compress it you expand it. I just used a pair of my normal snap ring pliers to expand mine. Youll know when you have it off the shaft because it'll stay pretty wide open

Does anybody happen to have pictures of what the internals of an S80 should look like with good parts in it?

Just wondering as my buddy got the casing off and i have been told by him that it doesn't look right at all.

How about you take a picture and show us what you are working with. Not to be mean, but from the sounds of it, I don't think you should be messing with the internals on a tranny.

All i do is ask for some help, thanks to HeikDiesel, he helped me out with the casing part. Im checking the trans out tomorrow as my buddy that pulled the casing off for me has never worked on a Honda in his life as he is a VW/Audi guru. So ill check it out tomorrow myself and take pictures.

Also, ive rebuilt an automatic transmission and torn apart and put back together a 5 speed as well so i believe im ok on messing with a tranny Hybrid96EK, thanks.

I wasn't trying to be rude with my statement. Just sounded like ytou were a little "lost" by needing someone to post a picture of what the inside of the tranny should look like. It will be fairly obvious if something is majorly wrong. Now if you are checking for worn out synchros and such then you are going to need to start removing things from the input and counter shafts. This is where you cannot afford to mix things up. Your best bet is to get ahold of a Helm manual so you have a diagram. Checking teeth on gears and synchros is something you should be able to do without the aid of pictures. Its pretty obvious when these parts are worn or damaged, if you know what I mean.
