running no thermostat
well since you live in nevada, that would be a really dumb idea. your water would get too hot, the thermostat is their to let the coolant in your radiator cool down a bit.
but with know thermostat the water will just keep on moving from the engine to the radiator without anytime to cool down.
its not like your car will go faster without the thermostat.

it will overcool the engine meaning the bores will eat a lot faster than what they usually do at around 98 degrees celcius, now, you can take it out and run without it for a while if necesary (NOTE: a while would be a day or two) but you need to go and buy a new thermostat ASAP.
ok to the jackass who responded first, im not an idiot and i realize it wont make it go faster did i ask that. obviously i must of if thats what you responded with right. but to the other guy gzero thanks for the help. would it be in her best interest to buy one of those fail safe kinds, so if it fails it just stays open. thanks again for the help. notice i said help and not bullshit.
It's better for a thermostat to stay open then stay closed. If open your car will take forever (or not) warm up.. If closed it is susceptible to overheating.
just make sure she buys a honda thermostat and you can isntall it, it's the best you can do.
Tell her that the more she runs without a thermostat the less the engine will last, simple as that.

running w/o a thermostat will make the car warm up way late and
run way rich... could eventually lead to a blow-by condition due
to shiny-*ss walls... get a thermostat in there bro, the ECU also
needs that constant temperature so it can make the best gas
mileage. my friend's GSR was losing oil really bad due to not
ever warming up. now that it has a thermostat in it and it cycles
proplerly, his oil consumption and gas mileage has improved. his
was stuck open. also... I would want to know why the car is over
heating in the first place...
