Rounded off cylinder head bolt!! HELP!!
I got all the buggers out except one....the damn thing rounded off on me...then I went and got that bolt extractor tool from AutoZone where you have to hammer it on and it bites into the bolt head and then you are supposed to be able to get it off then.....no lucky.
So, now what do you all recommend?? I sure would like to meet whoever put this thing in with the impact wrench and give em a good kick in the ***** right now. Please help.

thanks slowcivic.....that does make sense now that I think about it. re-torqueing (sp) the head bolts will releive upward pressure from the head on that one single bolt......is that the idea? Appreciate it....but also not only is the bolt stubborn....it's rounded off now too. any other advice besides next time don't round the bolt off? Thanks in advance.
An arp 12pt nut rounded on me a few weeks ago due to too much oil on the inner part of the socket. It's a good idea to wipe it down after every stud. I somehow could not get it out.
After a few days drilling it, I had to take it to a machine shop to get it out. If the bolt is rounded, having a shop with better tools to drill it out is the best way to go.

As mentioned, reinstall the other bolts and torque them down and retry the rounded off one.
If that fails, cut/grind the head off the bolt and pull the head off, then use a set of ViseGrips to remove the rest of the bolts, replace all bolts with ARP studs. 94

Thanks everyone.....especially slowcivic!!
I got it out. I re-torqued the other headbolts like slowcivic said to do, redoused problem bolt with PB Blaster then I used a deep throat Irwin bolt extractor to get it out....I had a valve on either side of the bolt so I needed the deep throat version so I could hammer it without hitting the valves....it got a good bite on it and it came out. Thank God!! Got the head off and valves out and cleaning it now.
