rod knock?
I built a d16a6 with eagle rods. I just got around to putting the exhaust on and i started to hear a knock that i couldnt hear before. Im wondering if this would be rod knock. My friend also told me that you have to retorque eagle rods after about 500 miles and i did that. The knock didnt get better or worse. Any help would be useful. How can i identify if its rod knock or not. Thanks
listen to it, rod knock is pretty obvious. If you dont know what it sounds like then google a video of it. Also like the guy above me said. kill one cylinder at a time and listen for change. what did your bearings oil clearance come out to?
What when i put them on. It was stock clearance. I dont remember the exact numbers. Somthin like .002. Very small. When i took off the oil pan to retorque the rods they moved side to side and a buddy of mine said that thats fine and doesnt matter. He said most cars do that. Is that true?
the rods have a thrust (side to side) clearance as well. Id have to go look that up. but I can tell you its a small number as well. I hate to tell you this now, but if you suspected rod knock you should have pulled the caps off while you were in there and inspected them.
Try and record a video with decent sound and post it up. have you tried killing one cylinder at a time yet?

No i cant cause im still running dual port. LAME i know. Yea i shouldve. if i figure out some how it is the rods id have to do that anyways. So im not sure what to do. Although im almost positive it is rod knock because its to fast to be anything else. And the rods just baraly move side to side so it has nothing to do with that. Dont know if ill be able to post a video. I might try to do that some time. Also what would cause my car to not have any low end torque. Ive checked the timing and its like half a tooth off. So i dont think that timing is the prob. Just throw some stuff out there for me. THANKS

Well if you cant kill injectors, then kill spark. just dont kill it too long and youll be fine. Timing can kill power, but if you suspect rod knock you should not be driving the car at all. Are you sure its just not excessive valve lash?
