Default rev limiter problem

ok i drive a civic with a 98 gsr swap and a p72 ecu when i drive the car for the first 15-20 min. it pulls fine but after a little while it has a rev limiter at 6500 rpms and it stayes there in every gear does ne one know what the problem could be i already reset my ecu so its not that if ne one else knows what the problem could be let me know ASAP thanks

see what gas is in it. It may have knocked and the ECU picked that up and the ECU is in safe mode and will not let you do it. Its just a fast suggestion.HTH

check/replace spark plugs, distributor cap and rotor

something with your VTEC system is malfunctioning. that happenes when the VTEC oil pressure switch is un attached. could be that, or a broken sensor? if that were the case you would get a generic VTEC malfunction code like a 22 on my 99.

checked plugs, fine.
replaced distributor, no change
havent yet replaced cap and rotor

but the engine ran fine on that cap and rotor a month ago....

the revlimit feels exactly like the ECU revlimit, so it doesnt seem to be a misfire.

had the same thing on my old d16y8..

couldn't ever figure out why it did it.

2 days later, car ran out of oil! destroyed rod bearings....expensive lesson..

make sure u have oil!!

fried rotor was causing similar problem for me... like fuel cutof at 4K RPM, same as rev limiter... replaced it and car back to normal.

can your car throw an engine code< maybe it is and you just have a broken light? jump the ECU and see

My b16 swap did this and im settin my self up to get flamed. but i didnt change my oil for awhile and the low oil pressure caused the vtec not to work. w/o the vtec your ecu goes into safe mode and limits at 6500rpm

ohh i got oil i have a custon oilpan to hold 5.5 quarts

ohh yeah and i replaced the cap and rotor no change.

no my CEL light works, we have a mastertech here so i can read what the ecu see and check DTC's(hondas name for CEL)

still no light.
