Default rev limiter

i just got an '04 Si and the damn thing only revs to 5k rpms?!?!?! it redlines at like 6900 but it wont go past 5, what can i do?

Unless you did something that would cause this, your car is covered under warranty for a period of 3 years or 36,000 miles.

^^I would say so.....especially since you said it was new! Take it to the dealership though. Maybe its some factory rev limiter for break-in, I don't know I'm just theorizing, plus i've never heard of something like that, except for when car mags. test new cars, some factories won't let the car rev past a certain rpm so the engine doesn't get ragged by the test drivers (ie dropping the clutch above a certain rpm.)

Since this thread is back from the dead..

All I know is when I drive the Hondas that come off the truck, I can guarantee it has the full rev limit... One of the things we have to check: Engine Performance. I love my job.

At 0 mph, the ECU will only rev the motor to 5k. When the VSS reads above a certain mph, it will rev to 6800. They refer to that as the "grandma limit". Its a fail safe Honda is using to keep people from revving the hell out of the motor with no load on it. Its normal!
