bouncing the rev limiter in a burnout bad? cause i saw a guy in a 99 si he was doing a burnout with his e-brake on just bouncing the rev limiter like it didnt hurt his engine.so does it hurt your engine at all?

no. The rev limiter is there to protect your engine from overrevving. Still probably good to avoid the rev limiter if possible...

yes it will. but if you are doing a burnout, then you know the consequences behind it. if you gonna race , then dont expect your motor to last like 200k

Usually NOT, BUT

I have mixed feelings about this, I did a 180º turn once then dropped the clutch half way through so I'd be moving when the car is facing the other way (fu8king around) and I overspun the tires (which I rarely do) and the tach got pushed to 8500 on the 9000 RPM tach, now I have a D16Z6 and it should govern at 7,200 RPM's, now there's either 2 answers to this perplexing incident, the tachometer is inaccurate, my next car is probably going to have an aftermarket b/c if it can differentiate between 8,500 and 7,200 there's a big problem in its operation....

the only other thing I can think of is my friend tuned the car......but being the jerkoff that he is he will NOT tell me what he did to it...I was thinking maybe he just turned the a/f ratio up a bit, he says that's not it, I don't know what adjustments he made, runs a lil rougher and a bit richer, but has a bit more power....so when he was tweaking whatever he was tweaking he may have removed the governor (I know most chips do that), it doesn't seem likely he chipped the ECU, so I don't know what else there is to tune, in any event, either my tach is way off or my governor isn't kicking on anymore (and I pulled a woopsie at 8500 RPM's)........Blah, that's my analysis on governors......so yea....

but according to the way they're supposed to work, it should stop it when it's "bouncing" and it shouldn't damage the engine (just keep trying to go past the governor)...of course the increased power of holding it at the redline for 5 minutes while u scrap the tires is always more wear on the engine..but that's a different ball game..

Short term, you probably won't notice a thing. But don't expect your engine to last very long if you do it all the time.

Its kinda like drinking to the point that u pass out, the passing out limits ur alcohol consumption(cuz u cant drink anymore) but be ready for a transplant soon if u keep doin it all the time.
