wats up everyone i have a stupid or not question about retainers.
okay so i bought a jdmb16a for my ej and since i was going crvtec i dissassembled the whole thing but it came to find out that the engine i bought of a guy was a first gen b16 and a second gen block. anyways im going with this and i open up the head since i built my **** with almost everything from block to head. and i noticed that the head had retainers. I dont know if i have valve springs or what not but since i am going to be running some s2s2 cams i dont want to risk running on what i think may be aftermarket valve springs. but as far as the retainers they look like titanium color. I know that b16 or b18 dont come that color and i asked my friend if it was possible that might be typer retainers but he said the type r ones are a different color and not silverish.

so basiclly my question is should i go with my instincs and run just the retainers and just buy a set of omni valve springs for my cams or unless if someone can tell me otherwise of if my retainers came of a jdm motor.

you prolly have the 1st gen AL. reatiners.
put a magnet against them.

if they are indeed aluminum, change them

 

well is that the color the first gen retainers came?
well if i put a magnet next to them and if they stick to the magnet that means they are aluminum? or is it the other way around and if i put the magent to them the titanium will stick and aluminum wont?
