removing power steering.. how?
i know many people remove the power steering belt when running at the track or what not to free up some horsepower. how would i go about doing this? is it difficult to remove and put back on? gimme the details
you won't get any power, don't even do it. you won't be able to turn worth a **** either. it's not the same as a car w/o power steering, it's a lot worse.
I'm sure your prelude is like my accord, so if i can dig up a picture of it, ill point it out. Its a matter of a few bolts to loosen the pump pulley section and slide the belt off. not sure if i have a picture of it handy, but ill check later., but do you know which belt/pump it is?
You do gain a tad bit more power... might be considered "nothing" by some people, but you most certainly do gain something.

boss, its only for track use. i know everything you said already. it wasnt really an opinion question.
typesh, id really appreciate that man. help me out :D

just pop your hood and take a look at the PS pulley. poosen the 2 bigger bolts and then turn the bolt that adjusts the tension until it moves down far enough to slip off the belt. I did that about 6 months ago and liked it so much better I pulled out the whole PS system a couple months ago.

boss how do you figure you dont get any more power when there is less drag on the crank you are gonna make more power it is a descent way to get back a few hp turning isnt horrible without it you just get bigger muslces
You are obviously one of those who judges w/out trying. Why don't you remove it and take a semi-fast turn w/out it...go ahead. Just try to tell me you didn't honestly feel the road 2x better.
i was at the dyno with simple4012 and it was dnyo proven that removing the power steering belt will give you an extra 6WHP on a Civic Si
so i just want to take off the belt for the time at the track and leave all the other things in place correct? then just replace the belt?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I could have sworn I remember reading a SCC article about a year or so ago about P.S. removal. They said if I'm not mistaken that when you just remove the pulley you're still pushing the fluid around manually. Wasn't there something else you needed to do to have a manual steering rack? I would look through the back issues for an anwser, but I threw out all my old copies when I moved

I say if your going to do it just take all the PS components out.. to just keep taking the belt off and on doesn't seem worth it to me...Especially once you feel any type of power gain your never going to want to go back (Just Like A Crack head) even though its not an incredible gain its something. I cut My AC belt 2 days later it all came out and went straight in the trash, Now I sweat my ***** off during the summer. Is it worth it for the minimal gain....Hell yeah

I don't know what kind of track racing you do, I assume drag. I take my belt off the week before I go autocrossing. Its great for feeling what the tires are doing.
I nearly took the power steering out all together, but I am not sure what to cap off with the in and out for the fluid on the rack. By dumping the fluid and pulling the lines and the pump you make turning the wheel much easyer. Plus you lose a few pounds.
Any one have a good idea for capping off the rack?
