Default Remove Intake pipe from throttle body. Should engine die?

I'm trying to trouble shoot a rough idle problem. When i remove the intake piping fron the throttle body should the engine die? I don't think it should, but maybe i'm wrong. I also assume the throttle plate should be totally closed during idle right?

Thanks

the engine should keep running with the intake pipe off

It'll run as long as there's not some sort of Mass Air Flow meter ahead of the throttle body. Hondas generally use a "speed/density" airflow metering system, so they'll run with an open-to-the-elements throttle plate.
