Default Somewhat working vtec (H22) Whats wrong???

The strangest thing happens when i first get in my car everyday. The vtec does not work. Now i know some of the common reasons why vtec wont work right off the bat like oil pressure not high enough, or car is not warm yet..But my oil pressure is fine and i let my car warm up everyday.

But as soon as i pull over and shut the car off and start it right back up....Vtec is working like nothing ever happend. Today i was on the way to work and shut my car off at a redlight and started it again..and what do you know...vtec is working again. Is this happening due to the code im throwing (code 20 Electronic Load Detector)??? As far as that code goes ive researched my bible (helms) over and over...Heres what i have replaced...

Alternator
vss (twice)
speedo cable (twice also)
gauge cluster (vtec wont work in my car unless the speedo works)

The last thing i havent R&R'd is the distributor...could that be the problem??? I was also told that i need to check my oil pressure switch...This sucks....Any help would be great...Thanks

Is your tach OK ? Is it steady thru the rpm range ? Is your O2 old ? There are so many things that it could be... more symptoms would be good.

Well my stock tach doesnt work...For some reason the place racing harness doesnt allow for the stock tach to work so i have a auto meter monster tach...BUT its not in yet. Also its a newly built motor so to date i have 710 miles on my motor.

Symptoms: When i got the car back code 20 was in the ecu memory, but never came on and car never went into safety mode....but its gotten worse....i can be pulling out of my garage and the check engine light comes on and i go into saftey mode. Sometimes i can be driving kind of hard then seriously 20 seconds later check engine light comes on and i can just feel a huge loss of power.

I also can not hit WOT ..As soon as i stomp the gas...it feels like fuel cut and really bogs down hard (throws me into my steering wheel) But i can let of just a tad and rev all the way if i wanted to.
