Default Recreating the B16B?

Hey Guys,

This is my first post here but I've been reading the threads on this forum (and many others) for about 3 years now to get tech info and what not. Anyways I've been doing extensive research on the subject but just need a confirmation from some of the more experienced individuals on this site!

So basically, I am in the process of building my civic for autocross, and I have been weighing my options. The car is going to be naturally aspirated, therefore I'd say that the B16B specs would be the ultimate choice. Only problem with that engine (or even the B18C5) is the cost of those things.

I'm super meticulous when it comes to building, but I'm also a college student so money isn't flying everywhere. I guess this brings me to my question.

I noticed that the B16B shares blocks with the B18C5, which is essentially the same as a B18 (more towards the GSR specs).

Could the B18B then be recreated using a B18C (GSR) (or even a regular B18B) with B16B Spec crankshaft, rods and pistons? I mean it seems like that's essentially the B16B, just built by me (Correct me if I'm wrong!).

I am also assuming that I could mate the B16A2 Head onto this set up.

The reason I want to recreate the B16B is because it's R/S Ratio is perfect for racing in the mid to high RPM's.

Anyways thanks in advance!

drop a b16 crank with 142.3mm length rods in and you essentially have a b16b

so.. spend all this money fooling around with parts for 20whp? but you have to tune it too.. so throw in more money for tuning and...

you're idea is absolutely correct. avoid the gsr head, as the smaller combustion chamber will give you headaches depending on what other internals you choose.

but if budget is the issue, and autox is the goal, why not simply do a b16 swap.. add a light flywheel and a lower final drive and spend the money you've saved on tires/suspension?

Alright great. Would using a B16A2 head be a better choice then?

And the reason why I'm sort of taking short cuts is because I don't plan on racing the car for another 2-3 years, but I want to at least get my hands on the engine and begin working on it. So I may as well build something ultimate in the mean time rather than just settle for a B16A set up.

As for suspension, I'm pretty much done those mods. It's the first thing I did and I'm overall happy with the cars handling. I'll also purchase the tires in the years to come when I am finally ready to take my car to the tracks.

Thanks for the info though!
