Default recommended VTEC crossover point?

what do you guys recommend i se tthe VTEC crossover to on the following setup:
B18C1 w/ ITR cams (all other internals stock)
stock intake (dual) manifold
stock GSR ECU, 8100 redline (since stock valvetrain)

i was thinking around
4800-4900? maybe 5000?

You know the right answer, get on a dyno and let the car tell ya.

I know its not that easy or cheap, but it would be done right.

yeah, i know. once i get enough time to take off the head, put the ITR springs in, and an ITR ECU, i will tune.

but until then, i know that 4400 won't work well with the ITR cams, and 5400 is a bit high since i rely on the secondaries. so i want a general number to set it at for the time being

I've got R cams in my crvtec setup and 5200 feels to be the best x-over for me.
I have no dyno sheets yet to tell me exactly though.

butt dyno till yure sure of your setup, then chassis dyno...or,go drag racing with slicks (for consistency) and test he different engagement points, while checking the times of your runs against each other...keep in mind you might have hit the right point but if the fueling is off (or timing) @ hat point, anoter point might fel stronger...DYNO DYNO DYNO

I thought that you would want your vtec to activate early like 4400. So vtec kicks in early and you will go faster. Why would you want your vtec to activate at 5200 I see alot of people do this but why is it any better when the activation will be later instead of early.

because VTEC doesn't mean instant power...

with the style of the duration and lift on the ITR cams, the GSR's point of 4400 is NOT optimal. that's why an ITR's point is 5400.

your sig should read,

"had a b16a for 2 years and I still don't know how VTEC works"

If you can spend a little more money
get a skunk2 manifold then run vtec at 5600 where its supposed to be.

no dude...no.
if you activate it too early it dosent make power.

Best way to find out is tune your non-vtec lobes and vtec lobes seperately, then find the rpm where the torque on the dyno chart crosses and set it there. That was the whole point and concept of vtec, to make smooth increase in power from one to the other.

i know that tuning is the solution. but as of right now, i'm not hitting a dyno, at least not until i get my header on as well, and possibly the valvetrain/ECU.

what i'm asking is, what is a general range to set it to FOR NOW, because 4400 won't work well. i have a VAFC, so i can set it to whatever i want, but i'm trying to see what would be a good temporary area.

for your current setup which is basically stock, and since you're still using the GSR intake manifold, I personally suggest leaving it stock. Visit the dyno whenever you get the time & $$$ to do so, and see what gains/losses happen when you tune.
