i recently purchased a 93 si. though it runs great the shifter seems to be really loose even when it's in gear. when it's in gear i can still move the shifter around like when it's in neutral. is that a sign of a bad tranny? please help. thanks.

 

u can always move the shifter around a little bit even tho its in gear (if thats what youre talking about). As long as it stays in gear then u should be fine.

 

it does not move just a little. it moves around significantly. my friend's 5 speed hatch is no where as bad. i might just get a short shifter to try if that might help.

 

Bushings. There is one at the very bottom of the shifter to the linkage, and another where the shifter is held to the chassis. I think it's the one for the chassis. Unfortunately you have to go under the car to get to it.
But it is pretty easy once you get in there,

To Check it. Grab the whole shifter rod. Support the top with your one hand, then take your other hand on the bottom most part you can get to move back and forth and see how much play is in the bottom of the shifter.
