rebuild/turbo
Finally got registered on here so this is my first official post. but Ive done a lot of research for weeks now.. but have a couple questions that i hope i can be assisted with. Right now the car i'm working on is a 94 accord - vtec f22b swap. Ive finally saved the money to actually go forth with some upgrades. turbocharging it being my main focus..Ive done lots of research on rebuilding my engine. but I am on somewhat of a budget but i do have some room to play. Considering what i'm shooting for I plan on going with a smaller kit like the t3-to4e system.. 50 or 57 trim, 63ar. but here are my questions about the rebuild..
I know the smart thing to do would be to get my engine completely rebuilt. new headgasket , studs, cam, bearings, rods, pistons etc..and possibly sending it off for hone, hot clean, polishing crank etc.. But im wandering. with a turrbo such as the t3 system im shooting for...Would I be safe only replacing my cam and pistons? Basically trying to figure out what I definitely have to upgrade to be safe without making it go boom and staying out of the garage every weekend. and from my research i imagine i should be okay around 12-15psi just upgrading my cam/pistons? does that sound right to you guys? i would like to shoot for atleast 300+hp. Also... i do plan on piecing my own turbo system myself piece by piece...but if I decided to go with a kit for around 1k or under, any recommendations? maybe something like this? http://www.spoolinperformance.com/sp...ies-p-855.html although some kits like this dont come with everything i need like injectors, or fuel pump, or tuning device.. for example.. just trying to get your guys opinion on what i need to do to my motor to prepare it for turbo and if i decided to go with a kit any recommendations? i know what i could do but would probably be out of my budget..im on about a 2k budget for everything..thanks in advance.

Do more research. The TUNE will make it safe. The TUNE is probably the single most important part of the build you need to concentrate on. A TUNE is not a basemap on a chip. Go find the person/shop that will be tuning it and ask them as many questions as possible. If you don't know who that will be, find someone. Do not pass go. Do not collect $200 until you have your tuning questions answered. When you do, you will have your other questions answered as well.
Don't look at another part for the build until this happens. The questions you are asking indicate that you are no where NEAR ready to boost your car as they are about as basic as you can get. For example, is your engine healthy? Done a compression/leakdown test? What's the engine capable of in it's stock form? Why do you think you need to change the cam? What power is that supposed to net you? Why would you NOT upgrade the whole bottom end if you planned on swapping just the pistons?
BTW, the kits NEVER come with the fuel side of the build. All the kits come with are the parts that bolt on. Pick a horsepower goal and THEN select your components. You don't buy a kit/parts and then wonder how much horsepower you're going to make. Then you need to know if your engine can handle that power goal.
I could go on and on but stop trying to GO turbo and learn HOW you actually get there.
