rebuild or block swap.
i have a b16a and it has started burning oil. i have run it hard so im not too suprised.. but i am curious if i should just re-ring and hone the cylinder walls ( and pop in some type R pistons) or just buy a gsr block and have myself a poor mans type R. would i be able to use the oil jets, oil pump, water pump, etc.. off the b16a on a bare gsr block ? or do i need to buy a complete gsr block? thanks
You'd need the block, crank, main caps, rods, and not sure about pistons. You will want to get a new oil pump too.
Personally I'd do a LS block for the money, they are dirt cheap while people want the world for GSR blocks. I've got an extra LS block and a micropolished crank sitting around that I got for much cheaper than I could have gotten a GSR block for.
