Default obd1/obd2 wiring question

So I bought a b20 vtec/obd2 motor to swap in my 95 rs which is obd1. So I did the swap, left the obd2 harness on the engine. I plugged the obd2 harness into the clips in the engine bay where right before the harness goes into the firewall. So the interior piece of the harness is still wired for and obd1 ecu. My question is, will this wiring work? I havent had a chance to fire it up yet because Im still waiting on an obd1 ecu. Im just curious if anyone has done it this way. Or if I have to pull the interior half of the harness out of the car and replace it with the obd2 harness/ecu. hope this makes sense.

wouldnt it be easier to cut the obd2 wiring and just mate them to the obd1 harness like they do with obd2 swap in obd1 cars..????

how do you do that? isnt that the same as unplugging the clips by the firewall and hooking them together?
