Default rear subframe replacement

Well I recently purchased a vx hatch and I had it on some jack stands. I noticed that the pass. side subframe where the lca mounts, it's bent about 20 to 30 degrees forward. It looks as if the owner before me backed into a curb with just the passenger side subframe I managed to straighten it out so the lca is no longer binding and that the holes for the sway bar are almost flat. But it's definately not straight like the other one. And now I question the structural integrity of it, especially when I put my 21mm rear sway bar. Can this be replaced? I was thinking of going with an entire backing plate similar to bsq's kit and comptech's kit, think it would work. I guess I just want to know if the damn thing rips out can it be replaced?
thanks (end rant)

Default Re: rear subframe replacement (superflea)

Everyone I've read about who rips them out gets them welded back up, then re-drilled. I just read a post about this. Guy reinforced it while he was having this done.

I think I'd get it straightened some more, then reinforce it.

I've heard 19mm is the max diam. for sway bars before they start ripping out.

Try a search.

a good body shop can probably remove it and weld in a new one. I don't have the slightest idea what it would cost but that's what i would do. Don't try to do ANY suspension mods untill you know that the platform you are working on is completely within spec. Why throw good money after bad.

Just my 2 cents. It really sucks that the previous owner neglected to tell you about whatever little "incident" caused that damage. I hope you didn't pay a hell of a lot for it.
