Default question about valve breather filters

ok, you know those oil breather filters? the ones that look like mini K&N filters? well basically they are used so you can bypass that hose that comes from you intake right? and it supposedly draws in more air without taking away air from your intake? and i've also heard it helps by reducing carbon deposits on your throttle body? Ok, now to the real question, does this thing harm you engine in the long run? I can't see why it would but i've heard that it will harm your motor in the long run, but all that valve is for is to draw in air right? and occasionally oil gets out? and if oil does get out doesn't it clog the filter? if anyone knows what i'm talking about, please let me know what you think

Actually I have heard that with the filter it doesn't give pressure to the valve cover for the reason I don't know. I mean it really don't give you any hp. Just my thoughts.
