Default Quick timing question

Which timing mark is advancing and which is retarding? Standing in front of the car, is the advance mark closer to the firewall and the retard closer to you?

On a 351W Ford, rotate the distributor counter-clockwise for advance, opposite for retard.

What about a Honda? I just want to know which of the three timing marks on the pulley is the advance and which is the retard.

I didnt know people talk about Fords on here also. But i dont know if a timing mark will be different on a d series than say b, k, f, j, or h series. I thought they are all the same, just need to know which mark is the retard timing

On your 95 acura the timing should be between the two red marks. The two red marks are the + or - two degrees from spec

lol thread fail

10 second google search

http://www.c-speedr.com/howto/timing/timing.php

and by the power of common sense I can deduct that the furthest mark from the TDC mark is the one with more degrees

Well if you can picture how an engine runs, and you know the timing belt spins counter clockwise. So if you rotate the cam gears clockwise, the valves will be opening sooner i.e. "advanced".
So, in any engine, advancing cam timing is obtained by rotating the cam gears in the opposite direction of engine rotation.
