Default quick smog question

if you fail a smog test, but the o2 levels aren't abnormally high, does that mean the cat's fine and that the problem lies elsewhere? my friend failed with 162 HC, .58 CO, and 2295 NO.

any smog techs around?

thanks

your friend car has too high of Nox emission. I guess you are in a enhance area where they test for Nox. Nox is cause by high combustion temp (over 2500). You can't test your cat without a five gas analyze.

Your cat is not working very well, all of your readings are high, with NOX at or near gross polluter levels.
