Quick question about VAFC install and splicing!
I am going to instal my VAFC on Friday!
I have been practicing soldering for a few hours a day for the last few days to build my soldering confidence..
My question is, when splicing into the ecu wires is there a way to strip a section of wire and splice into it without cutting the wire all together? (I'm talking about the power, ground, RPM, and throttle signal wires.)
In practicing I have been cutting the main wire, stripping both ends, soldering them back together, then soldering in the wire to the VAFC. << is this the right way to do it?
If I could find a way to strip just about an inch off the main wire without cutting it then that would be a lot easier but I haven't figured out how yet!
Please let me know if this is the correct way to splice into the ecu wires!
Thanks!!!

What I would do is make an extension harness and then splice into that if you dont want to cut your factory harness..
Or you could just use a pair of clicker strippers to strip the wire back, that will give you about 1/2" of room to solder on to the wire..

They are a tool that you can get a walmart, pepboys, ect.. They strip a wire with just a squeeze of a handle kinda like a pair of pliers..
And yes, You can move back the sheething on a wire without actually cutting it..

By clicker strippers he means wire strippers...
What I think you're asking is how to remove a section of insulation from the middle of a wire.
Use the strippers to cut the insulation at both ends of the section you want to remove insulation from. Spin them around the wire a little to make sure the insulation is cleanly cut, then take a VERY sharp knife and cut between the two points. Thread the new wire through, wrap it a bunch, solder it, and you're golden.
Or, save yourself a bunch of trouble and use these. I just installed my Vafc2 last night using mostly these.
They're called tap splices, home depot has 'em for like 4 bucks for 25. You want the red ones, 18-22 gauge wire...
Put the wire that you're tapping into through this, then there's one side of the tap splice that goes most of the way through. Put the end of the wire that's doing the tapping into it, and use a pair of pliers so that the leg can fold around it.
Makes a lot more sense if you have one in your hand, but once you do it'll be fairly self explanatory.
Good luck.

What you want to do is get a razor blade. Grab the middle of the wire and slowly shave the rubber down to the wire. Or you can do what I did. I took a razor blade a cut a slit straight down the middle of the wire. Then I cut around the wire until I got all of the rubber off.

strip some wire away and insert a pick to separate the strands of wire through the middle, making a hole it the middle. then thread the new wire in the space and wrap it around. then solder, tape and then tie wrap.
