I have a JDM CTR cluster that is messed up, when Vtec pops, the rpms go to zero. Its not the distributor!! Now I purchased a Shift light, because I dont know what I am revving to, and sick of looking at the VAFC for my RPMs. So I wired up the red and black wire to the stereo, and wired the green wire to the blue RPM indicator right next to the steering column in the engine bay. Now the shift light comes on when the car is started, but does not come on at 8600, when suppose to. I was thinking because of the cluster was not reading after Vtec hits, the shift light will not work. So I rewired the light into the VAFC green wire, RPM signal wire. The shift light still does not come on, and now no revs read on the cluster. Now I am wondering if I were to get a new cluster, will not problem be resolved, and how can I rewire the shift light to work for the time being?? pls let me know. Thanks
i would also like to know because i just bought a shift light. from the direction they gave me, it said RED wire goes to 12V ignition switch (+), BLACK wire goes to good engine ground (battery {-} ) and GREEN wire goes to standard ignition (-) or electronic ignition (tach terminal) . i haven't hook it up yet because the direction just doesn't look rite. please help me and BIGBODYSMITH.

I FOUND THE PROBLEM!!!!!
This is just for people who look up this topic later on. I hooked the red wire, 12v wire, to the red power wire to my radio, and did the same with the black wire, ran it to the negative to the radio. Then, I ran the blue wire off the distributor directly into the green wire to the shift light, also ran it to the blue and white wire to the guage cluster and my guage cluster works properly now.
