question on type one header and carsound cat
im planning on getting the type one header and a carsound cat on a 99 si.
the question i have is....can i use my stock exhaust? i know the type one has a 2.5" collector there for i will get the 2.5" carsound cat.... but will the cat bolt right on to my stock exhaust? i am planning on getting the apexi n1... just waiting for some $$$$$. i plan on getting the n1 a few months after i get the header and cat. any info/commments/suggestion will be appreciated.

It sounds like its a universal cat - since you can pick your inlet/outlet size. Soo... when you get it put on by a exhaust shop they can make it work. when they get the flange to work with the stock exhaust it will work with the n1. same size flange... just different pipe diameter. Don't let them reduce the size of the cat outlet..
... or i could be wrong and the cat has flanges already for a civic
in that case.. no worries.. and you could do the mod yourself

Well, if it's a carsound I'd bet it is a universal bolt on for your specific application.
I have a carsound 94006 2.5" HF cat mated to my Spoon header all of which I got from Mike"TypeRmsm" at IPS racing. It all went on well and the 2.5" cat mated to my 2.25" back stock exhaust does well and proved some nice gains.
Good luck, I think it will all work out for you,
A.

or does ips give you a cat specifically for you car with the right fit depending on the header? and would the 94006 be right for my car (99si)?

Like I said the cat was a direct bolt on that took care of any gap between the header and stock cat-back piping. Everything came with the correct gaskets for fitment. The shop did have to procure some bolts for proper fitment but it all fits fine and doesn't leak.
As for what cat is correct for your car I'd call Mike and ask him. I believe that mine is specifically for my header application and I'd bet yours would be a little different. Just call him up and mention your concerns. He's a great guy and will certainly help you out. He does have the Carsound cats on sale right now for like $155. I believe.
Use the link in my SIG to his site, get his numvber from the front page and just call him up. Good luck,

The Meccanic shop North in Salem NY did it. They were able to use the rear stock bolts," the ones that connect the cat to the cat-back piping. "The front header to cat connection required new bolts, springs and washers." I'm sorry I don't remember specifics of size, just ask Mike for the exact bolts you will need. He told me what I needed when I purchased everything, I have since forgotton, "sucks to get old and forget ."
Anyway the answer to the CEL is NO, my connection was perfect and I have not once had a CEL since the install. I have had it running this way since August and no problems just gains.
As I said, Give Mike a call, he knows everything about what you'll need and has good tips for installation. Plus it's fun to talk cars with him.
Good luck,
