question about honing
honing a block using a soft hone (bristle or bead/ball hone as some call it) its standard to use liberal amounts of Honing oil.
question to those that have honed, what type of oil is recommended, where can i find it locally? (do auto parts stores stock this?)
in place of honing oil ive heard you can use automatic tranny oil. any truth to this?

to be on teh safe side i would ask weisco what they reccomend as far as hone.
but dont use the dingleberry tool. use the tool that looks like a tripod with the stones on it.

The berry and bristle style hones does little more than round over the scratches. The only way to get a crosshatch and have the rings seals is to use a ridged hone.Bring it to a machine shop and have them take a couple strokes with a fine stone and light pressure.Trust me its money well spent. How many times do you see posts on ht about smoke and oil burning.
